Life Skills Class week 4

Feet / Middle:

This training exercise is very helpful if you struggle with stopping your dog from jumping up on people or if your dog is overly excited to see other dogs or reactive.

Step one:

Grab a small handful of treats

Say your cue "Feet" / "middle"

Start slowing dropping the treats one by one in-between your feet.

Step two:

Try using this around different distractions

Tug Game

How to play tug:

Tug is a great way to play and bond with your dog. There are a few rules that come with tug though and they are ..

  • Make sure you use a long toy

  • Your dog can't grab your hands

  • They must be calm and give you eye contact before they can have the toy

  • Your dog should drop the toy on cue

  • Keep the toy nice and low to the ground to encourage that all 4 paws stay on the floor

  • Break up your tug sessions every 30 seconds so that your dog doesn't get too over aroused.

Scent Work

What is Scentwork?:

Scentwork is a brilliant exercise to give your dog some metal stimulation and enhance your bond.

  • First we teach our dog a target odour

  • Then we teach them to search for it.

  • Once our dog has found the target odour we get them to indicate on the odour by hovering above the scented odour.

  • We then reward our dog for a job well done.
